College Editorial
by Mallory Yarbrough
Everybody knows about the exemption policy. As long as you make good grades and attend school, you get to have two free days at the end of the trimester. For a lot of people, it ends there. You either get two days to sleep in or you have to take exams. Who cares, right? Well, it turns out our exemption policy and our new 70-30 grading policy can affect you more than just right now. We asked one college student questions about how he felt about the policies and other questions about life in college. M: What college do you attend and what's your major?
Jacob Yarbrough: I go to JSU and my major is Pre-Nursing. M: What was your GPA when you graduated and what did you make on the ACT? JY: A 4.1, and I made a 30 on the ACT. M: What classes here at Handley do you feel best prepared you for college? JY: Pre-Calculus, AP Psychology, and AP English. M: How have your experiences with the exams here at Handley helped you at college? JY: I didn't take a lot of exams at high school. Here it depends on the teacher and the class you take, if you take any exams. M: So do you think students here should be required to take the exams? JY: It depends on them. Some people don't take any exams at Handley but they're fine taking them in college, but someone else might need to take some to be prepared. M: Okay, so what's living in a dorm like? JY: Not that bad. The roommates are loud and messy but it's pretty cool. M: What was the hardest thing about college to adjust to? JY: It wasn't hard to adjust to for me. M: What do you like best about college? JY: I like being able to take classes when I want to and the people I met here. |
