Subliminal Advertising

All people are victims of subliminal advertising whether they realize it or not. Companies use subliminal advertising because they think that it affects the way people think and feel. Most companies use subliminal advertising in magazine ads. They usually use dull colors and add some kind of bright color to attract the attention of consumers. Sometimes they brand and use slogans to catch attention.
In women’s magazine, advertisement companies use ads that are made to attract the attention of women, but they also incorporate items in an ad to draw the attention of men. In most magazine ads the backdrop is a grayish color, and the product they are trying to sell is the most noticable thing on the page. If they are trying to sell a purse the background might be dull gray or blue, and the clothes on the woman might be a dull color, but the purse will stand out almost like it is yelling at you. Advertising will also make their ads black and white with bold colored words to draw the attention of their costumers.
In “Vouge” magazine there is an ad for nail polish where everything on the page is black and white except the woman’s fingernails, the bottle of polish, and the words. It was a very bold ad that caught my attention immediately. If it caught my attention it is also likely to catch the attention of many others which is what the advertisement companies want. They want their consumers to notice their products, and they are willing to do whatever it takes to get that attention.
People often find themselves wanting to go shopping for items in an magazine ad after reading magazines. This is because of companies using subliminal advertising. The consumer has fallen prey to the advertisements hidden message.
